It's been forever...

I've been into costuming for a while but I don't post much about it on my other personal blog, and since I haven't used this one in forever and LJ has a great costuming community I'm thinking about using this for my costuming updates!  I don't think I'll be getting around to much in the next little while but I've been doing a lot for Halloween so I'll start with that, then work back through some of my other creations and then of course I can post on what I'd like to do in the future!

Anyway, here's a picture of my Marie Antoinette costume I just finished for our party last weekend.  I'm wearing it to a Masquerade Ball on Sat. so I'll be able to get a ton more pictures, especially of all the layers.  My cameras were dead for the party so I'm relying on others for what I have.

I was inspired by the Kirsten Dunst movie, since I've been drooling over those dresses for years now!  For my first attempt I'm proud of myself!

This costume is by no means entirely historically accurate, unfortunately.  I just didn't have the time or knowledge starting out, but I did start with the proper foundation layers, I made a partially boned stays (more on why later), side pocket panniers, and a chemise that I'd started for a Regency costume.

Then I used a Simplicity Pattern for the dress itself, altering it to fit over the stays, but I still used a zipper (invisible at least) up the back, and I also used metal grommets in the corset, instead of handsewing those.  I do kinda regret it, but I'll make another pair at some point and I just needed to get these done as soon as possible to get onto the rest of the ensemble.

I'm really pleased with the overall effect (if not all the fit, there's some gaping at the neck I'll fix at some point, and it's not finished on the inside which bothers me) and everyone else was VERY impressed.

Anyway, more to come later, here's a couple pictures for the general idea.  I decided to do "dead" makeup for the party, it was Halloween after all, so I'm "Queen of the Dead" with a gash around my neck and "stiches" holding my head on... :)  Kinda funny, but I'm going to just do normal makeup for the Masquerade on Sat.

I don't know what my face is doing in that first picture... bad things, so just ignore that!

I'm also not going to wear the wig this weekend, but do my own hair (perhaps in a hedgehog for ease of doing it...) for a little less "costume-y" look.

Anyway, more to come later for sure!
