Teen killed in one-car crash
A 19-year-old City of Lockport woman was killed in a one-car, one-person accident about
2 a.m. Saturday on Sunset Drive in the Town of Lockport.
The victim was identified as Victoria A. Balcom. She was driving northbound on Sunset Drive about one-half mile from Sunset Court. According to the state police, the vehicle crossed the southbound lane, struck a NYSEG telephone pole and then hit a tree head-on.
“There were no signs of braking,” according to a trooper at the scene. “It appears she fell asleep.”
Balcom was attending college and working three jobs, said her family. She was working at a restaurant in Clarence on
Friday.
The body was extricated by the Wrights Corners Fire Department. An autopsy will be performed at the Erie County Medical Center.
