cute short interview that doesn't mention his mismatched socks once!
We’re not really about superstars here at POP. But we’ll give credit
where credit is due. So I caught up with probably the most genuine and
funniest kid in Hollywood right now, Matthew Gray Gubler, and asked
him some questions. Now I know you’re all probably thinking ‘who?’
That’s most likely because you haven’t seen Wes Anderson’s hilarious
‘The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou’ . So drive/ride down to Blockbuster
right now. It’s okay, we’ll wait... Okay now that you’ve got the DVD,
keep an eye out for ‘The Intern’. That’s Matthew! You may have also
seen Matt on the crime series ‘Criminal Minds’ playing the genius Dr.
Spencer Reid. This kid’s a good human!
Situations I’d rather not be in:
1. Being forced to french-kiss my father.
2. In the Himalayan mountains, alone at night, being chased by the
abominable snowman.
3. Being anywhere near a nightclub.
Firework memories:
1. I was arrested in 8th grade for a having a lunchbox filled with illegal
Indian reservation fireworks.
2. I once threw a Whistling Pete in this high school bully’s ute while he
was driving past. He found me two days later and beat me up… But it
was completely worth it!
3. I once almost got totally blown to smithereens. My friends and I
were driving very fast on this desolate Arizona highway lighting bottle
rockets and shooting them back at some other friends in a car behind
us. Our back window was open and one of the fireworks got sucked
back into my car after being lit and thrown out the front passenger
window. It landed right next to a leaking 5 gallon petrol can we had
stolen from an RV campground the night before. Luckily, by some grace
of god, it was the only firework in the entire packet that was a dud.
Cameras:
1. The canon Gl1 Mini DV (my first serious video camera, it changed
my life. It doesn’t really work anymore but I still keep it on my shelf.
I’ve loved it more than any girl I’ve ever met; its been twice as reliable
and never lied to me).
2. The Panasonic Mini DV AGDVx 100, not the 100 A (I “keep it real”
with manual focus).
3. A Bolex Rex-5 16 millimetre film camera. A really cool teacher gave
it to me when I was in film school. He claimed it went down in a crash
of a WW2 plane and even though everyone in the plane died, the camera
continued to role and chronicled the entire crash. That’s how durable
it supposedly is.
Favourite people:
1. Vincent Price
2. Walt Disney
3. Macaulay Culkin (crica Home Alone)
Things to think about while working in LA:
1. How the hell did I end up on this TV show?
2. What are my lines?
3. I get paid way too much money.
