Oh bellajayd...I can't really rec anything for you since you are my fic dealer. And in the revised words of Jack Twist from Brokeback - I wish I will never know how to quit you.

But I will rec a fic for your flist.

For the two people who haven't read this:

Fic: Two Men & a Motorbike
Fandom: Star Trek XI (Kirk/McCoy)
Length: ~150k and completed. It also has a sequel
Summary: (From the author) One of the few constants in James Kirk's life the last three years has been his best friend, Leonard McCoy. After saving Earth from a bunch of crazy time-traveling Romulans, Jim & Bones find out what happens when best friends cross the line between friendship and something more after a late night ride on Jim's motorbike. There are good times and bad times, and times that are just plain complicated.

Why I love it:

* The characterzation of Kirk/Bones are spot on.
* You get the perfect amount of angst and sex.
* It makes you realize how much Kirk/McCoy need each other.
* This story made me a believer in Kirk/McCoy. I now ship them like the Queen Mary 2

you're going to love it and then spend six months writing bad bdsm because every one does when they first read administration
it's like a prerequesite (sp?)
I can't read the batman one, i have this squick, it's just a wee squick but batman is a monk, does nothing, not even new grayson batman - celibate
now robin and nightwing can go nuts, but batman, i can't..... i don't know where it's from but i just can't

i really don't do happy endings
third bar ended because the sequel was ready to go, it will end with the discussed nippawomsett plan, which is vaguely happy, ish
Pride Prejudice and Winchesters which is next should be happy, but that's crack so, you've read Something there is... so....
but you're looking at a girl whose most romantic story, Ba Ra Kei, had to end in death, because there was no other alternative.
happy endings, I don't do happy endings, i do wide open ambiguous endings, completely different

Wait wait so your squick is Batman being sexual? Even Nolan!Batman? I get the comics (I do) but is it ANY batmans?

Ohhh. It's BDSM? Hmmmm. Not my thing at all . . . I'll give it a try though?

yes, any batman, it does not compute, i get spock sized illogical captain freak outs and nose bleeds from the stress. It's a problem, I know, I also have no freaking clue where it came from, some you can go, ah but well

it's bdsm and it's not....
it's not master/sub stuff, its two consensual adults experimenting with boundaries and issues of control, which makes it work so much better, it's never saccharine or unbeleiveable and often the relationship which grows throughout the series is second fiddle to the story
but what happens is people read Manna and then they start writing bdsm and without her lightness of touch it gets distorted and you get the bad bdsm fic you're probably thinking of,
it's a character that enjoys being restrained and one that enjoys having power over the other, but always with the idea that they know what they're doing and there isn't a single pair of leather trousers in sight
I read Xanthe's stories and it was the complete opposite, she took the cliche embraced it, dressed it up and worked with it, but Manna never really deals with it.

oh, are you reading Brightness Burns by graceandfire she has me pwned at the moment

I LOVELOVELOVE "BRIGHTNESS BURNS!"

Hmmm. Which character likes to be restrained?

Warrick
imagine brightness burns without the dubcon
what i love about brightness burns is that kirk genuinely loves him, he's a mess, he might not know up from down but he genuinely loves him, in his own twisted sick way
you are going to love Administration, Toreth is like Kirk in that, reacting with violence to anything that makes him feel weak because he doesn't know what else to do, and Warrick is so reasonable and sensible that you're screaming Toreth's a psycho get out now but their relationship is so plausible, and each one is better than the last
i wish I'd written it...

Oh my gosh, YES! I HAVE TOTALLY READ MOST OF ADMINISTRATION! TOTALLY!!

. .. how does it end?

Reply

seraphim_grace November 30 2009, 03:08:04 UTC
warrick's mum turned out to be a spy and was murdered and then manna got published and she stopped putting them online until she caught up with the print versions, which she hasn't yet
pout

Carmack had taken over the administration, but it was clearly left wide open because carmac wanted to kill toreth but toreth was being a super sneaky git and escaping it

it's worth rereading - still wish i'd written it though

Damn. Still a WIP. For me WIP's are what a sexualized Batman is to you, or a cross to a vampire.

It is a wonderful series though from what I remember!

seraphim_grace November 30 2009, 03:26:15 UTC
each one stands alone, but the series continues, does that make sense, it's what's going to happen next not how will it end....
more will they ever admit how they feel, esp Toreth, more than oh noes the world is ending, it's not so much a WIP as a continuing arc,

i know waht you mean about WIPs though, it's worse when you're the one writing them.... snicker
I really must finish white butterfly

Ahem. Yes, you're beta should really get cracking on your WIP.
