Ok, so first off on the John-Dean amulet issue. This seems vaguely familiar...hmmm...wasn't there someone who was conceived without sin in order for them to give birth to one completely without sin? YUP! So, I think that perhaps John was a righteous man and only a righteous man could beget The Righteous Man. See where I'm going with this?

As for God in the building, I completely agree (we've had convos about this, yes?) I think they're going for a very Good Omens-esque stance here, where God's plan isn't fully understood by anybody, not Heaven or Hell. This also means that any crappy things that happen with Sam are meant to happen for a reason.

Onto Sam: yes, he understands that he fucked up royally. However, I think he realized something even more important: he has the capacity to fuck up even worse. If not, he wouldn't have to take time off from hunting. He knows there's something on the horizon and that he, and more specifically his choices factor in significantly. I don't think it's fitting that he's "finally freed from his family" so much as it's a full circle: he tried to get away from his family but couldn't, and now that he truly doesn't want to leave he knows he needs to. The fact that he makes the sacrifice is telling of his growth.

As for Dean, I'm not sure if he's read The Bible so much as he's read Revelations. Seems smart: if I'm going into the Apocalypse I'm gonna want to memorize every line of that particular section. I doubt he's delved into Deuteronomy, though.

To close a horribly long comment, the mustang gave me a cargasm, War was awesome, and to answer the Great Top/Bottom Debate ask yourself one question: who can better manipulate who? Therein lies your answer :-P

Yes! WHERE EVER HAVE I HEARD THIS? Someone has a total Mary fetish on that writing team!!

This is true, or they could just whip out the free will card. They're sneaky like that.

I dunno BB - you get sent to Hell and then yanked out by an angel - you read the whole damned Bible. Remember when Dean was hallucinating Lilith? The first thing he did was grab the Bible and pray. I would have that shit memorized by now.

to answer the Great Top/Bottom Debate ask yourself one question: who can better manipulate who?

See I can't answer that question. Cas can totally manipulate Dean and Dean has totally talked Cas into forsaking Heaven . . . see my issue??

Can I just say that there is nothing wrong with being a "character A must always be a top and character B is always his bottom" girl. Perhaps this is years of reading manga has warping my mind but I like it when it is clear cut. But you know that about me already. hahaha I think I have told you that like 1000 times

I agree with our lovely aisling_door. I don't think he got what he wants in terms of being freed from his family. He has accepted the fact that hunting is the road that he has to go down and to do it with family is better than doing it alone. Which is why when he told Dean he wanted to leave he wanted Dean to fight him on it.

Like door said, I do think Sam has shown growth. I have always thought there is a kind of petulance to Sam's character. I wants to be right and he wants to be the best, which was indicated by the whole Ruby arc. Since he has accepted he is a hunter he wants to be best hunter he can be. But the fact that he can take a step back and realize that him being the best in this instance can lead to him down a dangerous road shows growth and is a complete reversal from last season.

there is hope for little Sammy.

I agree there is totally hope for Sammy - but his wish from the first season has been granted, and its very ironic because he's recieved it when he doesn't want it. At any other time prior to this he would have been happy to leave but now, when he wanted Dean to convince him to stay his brother instead offered him the keys to the Imp.

Actually I thought that Dean offering Sam the Imp was Dean's final attempt at protecting his little brother. I feel that for Dean the car has always symbolized home and safety and by offering it to Sam he was still trying to protect him. The fact that Sam refused the Impala tells me that the separation wont be permanent [in fact I know how it unfolds lol] - because every time he's in the car with Cas he, for some reason or other, ends up driving a white car. Hahaaaaa. Symbolic much???
