To Katrina

Aug 29, 2008 22:58

Three years.

Today, I am thinking of New Orleans.

I am thinking of the Gulf Coast, of Mississippi, of Texas, of Alabama, of Florida.

Today, I am thinking of the people in FEMA trailers, of volunteers with Gulf lungs, of mold removal, of the 9th ward, of men and women and children swimming through sewage to hopeful safety, of a Mardi Gras held in defiance of every pain in the world (just as Mardi Gras can do).

Today, I am thinking of how often we stand by and do not enough when doing just a little bit is something.

My thoughts are with all of you. All of you.

And there are times that I love how circular life is. But now is not one of those times. In the circular, connected way - this entry is for all of you that may have to evacuate, that are worried about your homes, your families, your pets, your livelihoods, your HOMES.

So, as bullshit and useless as it may be (unless its not), my thoughts are with all of you.

activism, hurricanes, race
