Tuesday night, around 10 pm, I'm sitting on my couch obsessively watching the progress of the election. Obama is starting to rreallllly pull ahead. Jay comes over. We are sitting on the couch just watching and lighting conversing. Then, they announce it, Obama is the victor in the 2008 presidential election. OMFG! HE DID IT!!! Jay and I high-five eachother and go out to Gusilline(sp?) Alley to celebrate. Apparently a bunch of people had the same thought.
We get there, do a celebratory shot, and notice everyone is pretty much doing the same thing: celebrating. People are toasting their drinks and hugging eachother like a bunch of hippies. :-) Then it is time for Obama to give his speech. The music is cut, volume on the TV is turned up, and everyone stops to watch. It's almost like we were all in a trance. I've never been in a bar where everything was dead silent except for the television, much less a back alley rock n roll place.
When he was finished, everyone broke out into applause and cheering. We all had just witnessed history. It was fucking cool as hell. :-)
I'm so happy. Obama will not be perfect. But he has GOT to be better than Bush. I really hope he doesn't let us down.
