Covers songs a rant
Let me start this off by saying I'm a Prince fan...I'm a HUGE Prince fan!! I love Christian a lot. He's a great actor and singer, but I would run him over with a truck in a New York second to see Prince!!
I've seen this video just once before and I LOVE it! I don't like covers. I don't like them at all. I have always felt that the original of a song was fine and didn't need to be screwed with. I HATED Puffy for the longest time. He didn't write music he made money off the backs of others! I don't want people taking a song that's perfect and thinking "Hey, I can do better" or "What if we make a techno version" (I have no love for techno or house music. I used to work in a dance club. I never need to hear house/techno again...ever!)
I've heard a few covers of Prince's songs and a couple of cover's that he's done. I've only liked one or two of them. That's just me. He did a great version of Joan Osborne's "One of Us" but I didn't care for his cover of The Stylistics "Betcha By Golly Wow". He also re-did Bonnie Raitt's "I can't make You Love Me" which was pretty good especially since her original is so hauntingly perfect. (Gonna listen to that later)
I know Ginuwine did a cover of 'When Doves Cry' and I think it was said Prince HATED it. Alicia Keys did 'How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore' and it was pretty good. I'm not sure CK is a Prince fan, something tells me he's not, the group was probably just exercising their musical chops, but I have to say, this was a good job.
