* - indicate books I already borrowed, purchased, or found somewhere in my house or on the dusty shelves at work
crossed out means I finished it
italics means "in progress"
I will update this list every few weeks or when I notice that I'm starting to make some progress. This is all in preparation for my classes next year, but titles in green indicate books I don't really plan on teaching because I know out of the gate that I won't gain the interest of unmotivated seniors. Comments and suggestions are most welcome!
*1984 - George Orwell
*What is the What - David Eggars
My Sister's Keeper - Jodi Picoult
*Things Fall Apart - Chinua Achebe
Cat's Cradle - Kurt Vonnegut
The Color of Water - James McBride
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings - Maya Angelou
Invisible Man
The Natural
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
Return of the Native - Thomas Hardy (although people tell me it's lame)
Slaughterhouse Five - Kurt Vonnegut
Snow Falling on Cedars - David Guterson
Snow in August - Pete Hamill
Their Eyes Were Watching God - Zora Neale Hurston
Wuthering Heights
Gertrude and Claudius (they probably wouldn't have read Hamlet, so what's the point?)
