There are communal showers at S.H.E.I.L.D headquarters and Steve had finished his work out, he’d just wanted to relax under the steam but when he got there Tony was already under the rush of hot water, head tipped back, his expression almost blissful and Steve let himself watch because there wasn’t really any harm in it.
He was just admiring Tony, the way he’d admired his friends from before, the ones he’d been at war with and Steve had only ever looked but never touched so it wasn’t really wrong. He just admired them for the aesthetic reasons, because he was an artist and if he lovingly watched the way that droplets of water raced down the muscles of Tony’s back then it was simply because he appreciated the male form.
And then Tony had started to touch himself.
Steve knew he should have left then or that he should have made some sort of noise, maybe banged a door so Tony would know he wasn’t alone. He shouldn’t stand there and watch, shouldn’t enjoy every breathy moan, shouldn’t imagine his hand stroking in place of Tony’s, shouldn’t imagine Tony moaning his name. He can feel himself getting hard now and he wants so badly for it just to be a physical reaction and for it to mean nothing more but he knows if it was anyone else but Tony standing under the shower spray he wouldn’t be watching.
Tony comes with a load groan, head tipping forward to press against the cool shower tiles and the water washes away all the evidence that he had ever been doing anything more than getting clean. Steve swallows down his feelings, ignores his erection and flees back to the training room.
There’s no feeling that he can’t work out with a few rounds up against a punching bag. He knows that now. He’s been denying this for years.
