He is pleased. Very pleased. His father’s infinite plan has seen fit to bless them with a child and Michael is delighted but he is also wary. Adam grew up as an only child, as a beloved child and even now he is the youngest, he is the baby. He doesn’t know the strain having a little one will bring. Michael has always been the oldest, has always been the one looking out for his brothers and sisters. Now he’d felt finally, with Lucifer locked away again and their father’s wishes for the fighting to stop being followed to the letter, that he could look forward to a few years of rest with Adam.
He did not expect to have a new fledgling forced on him so unexpectedly.
“Michael?” Adam said, squirming in his seat. “Say something, okay?”
Michael blinked, licking his lips and then he smiled. He might not have been expecting it but that didn’t mean he couldn’t embrace it with open arms. His father always knew what was right for them. He wouldn’t have created this miracle if he didn’t know that Michael would rise to the challenge. He shifted in his seat, moving round the table so he could press his hand to Adam’s stomach, feeling the pump of the grace beneath his fingertips, the new life growing there. He has been given the chance to be a father, the greatest gift he could be given.
“I don’t think I have ever been happier.” He confided in Adam, watching the smile break out across Adam’s face.
“Thank God!”
“Yes, thank Dad.”
