Thursday Book Day
My book this week is Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan. This story is about a girl, Koly, in India who has an arranged marriage to a boy who is very sickly. I don't want t give to much of it away for those who want to read it, but the book follows her through some very hard times. She moves into the house of her husband, because when you're married during this time, it's custom for the wife to go live with her in-laws and never return to her own village or home. Koly's mother-in-law is also very cruel and Koly doesn't really have a refuge in her new home. It's a very good book and not as depressing as it sounds. Read and enjoy.
