Actually I hate the Lakers, especially Kobe. So good on the Celtics.

Pffft. You say that NOW because the Lakers were sent home with their tail between their legs. ;)

But thanks.

No, I really do hate them. The press coverage is fawning and obnoxious and the worship of the players disgusting. Laker fans also tend to be smarmy in the extreme. I haven't hated an LA team like that since the Raiders were here.

So, good for the Celtics. Even though that's not how you pronounce it. :)

The hard C just takes too much effort for us Bostonians. ;)

And thanks. :) Honestly, Boston is like no other city in the U.S. when it comes to sports -- it's a huge, huge deal to us. We basically live for our teams. So having the C's win their first championship since '86 and return to their former glory (they are, after all, the most winningest, storied team in the NBA!!) is reaaaaaaally exciting!! So I kind of love the Lakers right now because they helped that happen. ;)

LA is the kind of place that can't be bothered a lot of the time. It's like we don't have a pro football team, and the city is like, "Yawn." Civic pride is not job 1 out here. So the championship should go to a place where it is!

That sucks. I'll say this about Boston -- it's a very, very proud city. Our nickname is the Hub (its how our local media refers to us) because the joke is that Boston believes itself to be the hub of the universe.

It's weird. I've been feeling a lot of Boston pride lately. At the risk of being accused of regional jingoism, and as much as I complain about this place, I don't know of any other city with such heart.

LA is not a bad place at all, it's just too laid back to get worked up about that whole civic whatchamacallit, pride or whatever, y'know? :) The last time the Lakers won the NBA championship, I think a couple thousand people showed up, went "Yay!" and then left to miss the downtown traffic. :)

I drove home through Anaheim, when the Angels won the World Series, and I think I saw one person honking their horn, and everybody looked at him funny. :) The only sport I think people really gets a buzz going around here is college football -- USC and UCLA fans can get pretty rabid, and that's fun.

LOLOL... When one of our major teams wins a championship, the entire city shuts down for the celebration. Literally millions show up; it's nuts.

But speaking of college football: My friend and I spent a few days in Tallahassee once, home of the UF Gators, during a big game. O...M...G. When I say that everyone in town was wearing Gators shirts, I'm being literal. We went to the mall, and we felt like aliens that had landed on another plant because we were the ONLY ones not wearing Gators shirts. I swear people were staring at us, because they knew we were outsiders... LOL. To this day, the memory freaks me out because it was SO weird. :)
