I called the doctor today and asked if I could make an appointment for later in the week; they replied, "No -- you need to come in today and make sure that you didn't rupture your Achilles tendon." SIGH. So, after it took me about 45 minutes to make it downstairs on one leg, off we went.
My Achilles tendon is intact -- HALLELUJAH!!! -- but I DID tear my calf muscle. They did an x-ray, but couldn't tell if it was a partial or full tear, so they're sending me to an orthopedist once the acute pain subsides enough for them to do a better exam. But the prognosis as of now is: two to six weeks (maybe even eight) of being on crutches, keeping it elevated, iced and wrapped (for compression), and not putting any pressure on it. Also, they said it'll probably start to swell even more and bruise over the next week. UGH!!! There go my hiking plans for the summer... and I won't be able to work on my photography until I can walk crutch-free again. I'm so glad I didn't have any major vacation plans or anything.
On the upside, thank god my main computer is my laptop. Can you imagine what the next several weeks would be like if I had to stare longingly at my desktop from my bed?! The horror!!!
