Is anyone else sick of this Katie Couric hysteria? Jesus. So she's moving to CBS and that skeleton of a woman Merdith Viera is taking her job. Sounds more like an HR matter than REAL NEWS. Every national news update we've run for the past two days at work at least briefly mention Katie's career capers. Seriously, America, doesn't this piss you off?
Aren't you mad that ABC and CBS are using valuable newstime for ADVERTISING? That's all it is. Now, if Katie Couric, like, robbed twelve banks in Manhattan and then fisted Viera on live TV, that would be news. Changes in personnel are not. All these networks want is for you to hear the story and think, "Hey, I'm gonna watch 60 Minutes now!" or "I bet Viera's gonna suck on Today! Let's watch!" So you watch, and the audience number increases which means ABC and CBS can pull in more lucrative advertising deals. Some corporate fatcat gets a million more dollars, and you're still stuck in your holey-underwear, eating crappy food and watching Katie and Meredith like a good little drone.
A bit of a stretch, yes, but that's pretty much the truth. It's not what really angers me, though. I hate that these gatekeepers pump us full of bullshit news so we don't know that every country on Earth pretty much hates us. Stupid, slanted, biased news that keeps us preoccupied enough with our 9-to-5's, keeps us afraid of everything so we keep consuming, keeps our blinders on so we think that what happens here is the only thing that matters.
Sigh. You know, being a liberal whack-job is hard sometimes. :)
I'm terribly bored at the moment, as I'm the only one here at work for the next two hours. Peace and quiet, save the callers on Dave Ramsey. How I long to scream, "I'm debt-free!"
Anyway, I hope it quits raining for Mayhem. I'm ready to rock. I'm feeling a lot better (fucking strep throat), save the fact that for an unbeknownst reason, my boobs hurt.
Oh, and I want to add that I haven't had a cigarette in 5 days! Looks like I'm really going to be able to quit this time.
