[Geek] Blog Reading Coolness

Jul 06, 2005 20:05

Today has been a real geeky day for me. I have been playing around with the Firefox extension Sage. What Sage does is aggregate RSS feeds and allows you to view them in a very easy manner. This is a lot better than what LiveJournal does. LiveJournal does pull the feed from an RSS source and then goes ahead and creates a LiveJournal based on that. This does not present the feed and a user-friendly manner most of the time unless you're viewing it in a friends view.

Sage on the other hand presents each feed individually and allows you to view it as if you are viewing the web page syndicating the feed in the first place. Also, for most feeds, when you select on the feed name from the list of bookmarks. It will also create a digest view. So you can see a snapshot of what is available for that particular feed. This can be really handy if you just want to skim over each feed. Will also give you another list of available stories from each feed and will also bold them if you have not read that story yet.

So have been playing around with this extension quite a bit. I have also hunted around the Internet to find some feed to add to it. I found a couple it interested me, but I'm still looking for more. So I thought I would ask all of you for something. Other any blogs or sites that have RSS syndication that you think I should read? They can be on any type of subject matter: politics, religion, comics commentary news, entertainment, gossip, and so forth. I'm willing to entertain all types of viewpoint provided that the authors are rational individuals intend not to be extremely hardline. Such individuals would be Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, and Michelle Malken.

Another geeky thing I did today was finally get some speech recognition software installed. This entire entry, in fact has been dictated and not typed. I barely even touch the keyboard at all in generating this entry. Hopefully my speed will improve in pumping out entries because they tend to slow down when a tight even though I physically type at a fast rate. I sometimes get interrupted or, I lose my train of thought, or what not. It also tends to cut down on the pain I feel in my wrists went awry tight longer entries. But of course I will have still practice using it for little bit.
