OK so I have been working at my new job, getting the new show ready for the fringe festival and teaching three nights a week, not too much to do but it leaves me precious little time for blogging.
I feel like all I do is jump in the car and go from job to dance to home to job to dance to home to job to grocery store to dance to home to gas station to job to home to job to rehearsal. Goldie knows her way around the city pretty well now, I'd say.
The good news is all this practice is really improving the way I feel about driving. So much calmer now.
I really love my new job. I was waiting to say that until the honeymoon was over, I have been there for a total of six weeks. It is hard work some days, I still don't have the room organized the way I want, but I like all the people I work with and the days fly by like wild horses with their tails on fire.
It took a few weeks but I finally understand the way the system works and I can see areas that can be made more efficient and less top-heavy.
In the weeks I have been there, my immediate supervisor has gone on vacation, twice, one of the best workers got smashed in the head and had to be off for a week, plus she went on vacation for another week, the administrative assistant fell terribly ill and is on long term sick leave (she's the person who does all the paperwork that is necessary for me to do my job)the guy who loads the trucks only shows up for work sometimes, the boss has barely been on the job for three months, so he's just learning too, but even with all that, I still have a great time at work everyday. I come home really beat, but happy. The reduction of stress is amazing.
I am really able to enjoy my dancing again in a way that was becoming difficult at the old studio, with the stress of knowing I had that huge rent to pay each month. I love not being cold all the time from the air conditioning in the mall. My new job is hot Hot HOT! I am soaking it up like a lizard on a rock.
I have lots of plans for the fall, we will be dancing two nights a week at Danspace on Grafton. I will post a schedule soon. I will be teaching beginner, intermediate, and advanced as well as keeping the troupe going. Haflas will still happen at the end of each session, but we will now have professional lighting and sound whoo hoo. Ticket price may have to go up a smidge to pay for the venue, but we'll see.
The new show is coming together wonderfully, I have been very pleased with how the work is progressing, I am going in a totally new direction as a dance artist. It feels a little slower than I would like sometimes but that is the nature of the beast.
The beast called choreography, I mean.
The show is called Belindance Greatest Hips! and will be in the Atlantic Frige Festival in Halifax, August 28 to Sept 7.
On other news:
Connor has finally moved back to Halifax. He has been staying with us for the last couple weeks, we helped him get a good job and now he is moving in with some room mates to experience "life on his own".
It will be nice to see him regularly. We even plan to start a "sunday dinner" family tradition. It will be good-I have missed knowing what's going on in his life.
Steve's new book, Gypsy Blood is out, its a novel and some of his strongest work in my humble opinion. You can find it online by going to his website, you can get there from here if you go through my friends page. Steve is also doing buskerfest this year, so if you want an alfresco palm reading, go find him on the Halifax waterfront, give him money and he will hold your hand and speak sweetly to you. I am the only one who gets that from him for free. heehee.
Well I am glad to have finally caught up, gotta go get the day underway, sooo much to do and sooo little time.
