Hey, you know..... This place isn't so bad. Got a few laughs, got some food.
But I think-- [grunt, like he's lifting something heavy] the best thing is getting to surf. Hey, anyone else know how? Somebody on this island has to. If not, I guess I can try to teach you or something.

Get down here, Hiccup.

Yeah, okay.
[omg he's running.]

You and Zeke both, wow.

[He's grinning like an idiot. Don't mind him. Its your fault for befriending a spaz.
...a Spaz that now sees your surfer.]
Oh, wow is this it?
[He starts to inspect it.]
Is this what you--you surf with? You surf with this? Ah--this is so cool.

[Sokka's fault for befriending a spaz, but hey, Jim's not counting.]
Uh-- Yeah. It's not like what I use back home, but it works.

I mean, you can still surf this, right? Surf with this? is that how you say it? For--forget it.
[Sorry, going back to loooooking.]
So how do you keep your balance? Is there usually a tether here? And this is how you steer? Are you going to show me how it works or--or--or do I just, you know, get out there?
Reply
You keep your balance holding onto this rail here, the tether's usually on the far side of mine, you steer by shifting your weight. And yeah, I can show you. [he's laughing okay, HE LIKES SHOWING OFF THE ONE THING HE'S GOOD AT]
Reply
By, uh, by all means.
[He motions to the water, still watching Ever So Expectantly.]

I don't do the water thing. Keep up, all right? [He holds onto the rail and gets a running start, waits for a current to jerk the board away and jumps on and away he's off.]

Almost instantly, he compares it to riding Toothless. There's so many similarities.
The wave of homesickness takes him completely by surprise. He misses his friend.
The teen's smile falls, but he doesn't take his eyes off of Jim. He still wants to try this out, and he's nothing if not stubborn.]

Hey, Hiccup! Try to catch this thing when it comes by! [He really hopes Hiccup heard him because now he's going over the water trying to gauge the depths and man he really should think up better ideas sometimes. But then again, his ideas are usually good. He rode up and started coming down with some speed and then jumped off in hopes of landing in a deeper part of the ocean and letting the surfer glide back to the beach. He came down with a splash and stayed under for a few seconds before coming up, arms high above his head in victory.]

Okay, yeah, that wasn't what I was expecting!

[OH CRAP, JIM JUST BAILED. Did he mean to do that or--
What he shouted clicks a second before the glider passes. Hiccup sputters and high tails after it. With grit teeth, he throws himself forward, hoping he's judged the distance right. By some hand of the Gods, he makes the board, hands taking hold of the rail as his weight threatens to pull him back off.
The board banks right and hard. Hiccup gives a shout and tries to even himself out. It jerks the other way. He certainly doesn't mean to look like such an amateur.]
C'mon! C'mon, c'mon!
[How is driving a dragon easier than this?]

You gotta-- Shift your weight into it, let it lead! Don't try to force it!

Shouting "Be careful" would be redundant.]
