[It's early morning on the first of January; Claire is standing outside the Violet Pokemon Center, bundled up, with a little cloud-like Pokemon snuggled in her arms, looking around curiously.]

Happy new year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I'm feeling much better now, and my Christmas egg hatched!

[She nudges the Castform, and it lets ( Read more... )

It's like a cloud...

Huh, I guess there really is a pokemon for everything.

It makes me wonder how something like this reproduces and makes eggs in the first place.

I find the evolutions to be a little strange, too. My sheep isn't a sheep anymore, and my raccoon turned into a ferret.

Beats me.

This place has little to do with rationale I've found.

I suppose biology is just different here. It is a completely different planet, after all.

Well, there's some pretty unique evolution traits on islands, but I've never heard of an individual creature just... evolving on its own before. Not to mention a cloud creature made of cloud without the aid of a devil fruit.

Metamorphosis would be a better word for it, I think.

Ah... a devil fruit is something from your home?

Definitely. It's rather like the stages insects go through, so I guess it's not completely foreign in that sense.

Correct. Heh, sometimes I forget no one else has heard of them if they're not from my world.

Perhaps you could tell me more about them? The devil fruit -- that is, if you don't mind.

All right, what would you like to know?

You mentioned something about clouds -- and why is it called "devil fruit"?

A person -- or animal, or object, who eats a devil fruit gains a power that they're cursed for life with and they'll never be able to swim again, becoming hammers in the ocean. Err, not literal hammers, just that they sink.

Some of the powers are pretty strange, like turning into rubber or smoke. My own was the moku moku no mi, so I could turn into smoke. Sort of cloud-like really. They're called "devil fruits" because supposedly you gain a power of the devil and its him who curses you. It's an old legend, not much substance to it really, other than gaining the powers that is.

There's nothing like that from my world. It sounds interesting, though.

They're rare even in my world, but just about everyone's heard of them.

They don't even work here though, which is annoying.

Oh, so you can't turn into smoke anymore?

Maybe the process of bringing us here interferes with it somehow.

Correct. And my friend who has a devil fruit doesn't have hers here either. Neither does my prey. Still strange. I suspect it's like how the people who weren't human before coming here wind up human here though.

...Pardon me, did you say "prey"? Just what do you mean by that?
