[The camera shows a white glowing Pokemon at Claire's feet. It's glowing so brightly that it's actually washing out the screen a bit.]

Something's happening to Faraday! Is this normal? Is he sick? [She's not panicking, certainly, but she does sound distressed.]

[Claire kneels down to try and touch him, but before she can, the glow changes ( Read more... )

[Hey there, Claire. Hope you don't mind a Hershel popping up behind you.]

Ah, is that Faraday, Claire?

I think so. He still looks like a sheep, but....

[She holds up her book.]

This said something about Pokemon turning into different Pokemon. Have you experienced anything like that?

Yes, I believe that is called "evolution" around here. It seems as Pokemon evolve much quicker than humans.

I myself have never had any of my own Pokemon experience it, but Luke has a few that did. He should know more about the matter.

Evolution? But that's something that occurs over the course of generations. It doesn't happen within a single organism. Wouldn't "metamorphosis" be a better word for it?

[Fading from scientist mode to normal mode, she glances over at Faraday, who's nudging her for attention again.]

I just want to make sure he's alright. [Without, you know, touching him. In the spur of the moment she almost did, to make sure he was alright, but now... the same fear is back.]

Haha, well, I am only following what the natives call it here, Claire. Metamorphosis does seem to be a better way of placing it though.

I'm sure he's alright. Apparently this is very common among Pokemon here. Perhaps you can now pet him where there is no fur?

I suppose metamorphosis is a bit more heavy on the tongue than evolution.

[Claire looked down at the insistent little one.]

Isn't he still an electric type?

[He looks down at the Pokemon as well.]

I suppose so, but wasn't it the only wool that stored electricity? I believe it should be fine elsewhere.

Should I pet him for you?

[Cause he totally doesn't mind getting shocked. Not like he didn't nearly break his back, lose his fingers, get a heart attack, or have burning thighs here.]

But he's different now. It might be different.

[Hershel, is that your way of making Claire take risks? By volunteering to take them yourself instead?]

No, no, I'll do it.

[Claire reaches out fearfully, patting his belly. Nothing happens, save for Faraday bleating quietly in pleasure.]

[What, nooooo. He was just trying to be a gentleman. It's not like he's volunteering to jump off a cliff or something.]

Ah, it seems like I was correct. Faraday seems happy as well.

[She continues to scritch his belly, backing away a bit so Hershel can sit beside her if he'd like. Aww, this is kind of nice.] You can pet him if you'd like. He's very smooth here, there's no stubble or anything like that.

[And he does take the offer and kneels beside her. He takes up her offer and does pet the sheep-like Pokemon.]

Yes, he is very smooth. Haha, it must be nice to pet Faraday for once now.

I wonder if he'll have even less fur if he evolves again.

You just wanted me to pet you, Sweetie, didn't you?~

Perhaps. We can always ask around on the network. I'm sure one of them should know the answer.

Has anyone ever said how many different kinds there are?

Hmmm, no, I don't believe so. There is quite a lot, but never an exact number is given. We may ask around.
