Loki had never felt fear.
He had seen it many times, struck it into the hearts of sinners on a daily basis, and almost understood the need for it. But when fear came for him, it was a strange sensation.
Lying in a crumpled heap of arms, legs and burnt, black wings, he could feel it settle over his chest, the barriers of Heaven no longer saving him and his angelic status from its cold, dark fingers.
No longer could he hear the songs of his brothers. And no longer could he reside with his Father. He had been cast out of Heaven as punishment for his insolence, and sent down to the bowels of Hell, landing in the very place he was used to delivering the souls of sinners. The Black Gates of the Underworld.
Here he was to join his brethren of old. Friends who Fell with Lucifer and friends who Fell after. Friends like him.
He was Fallen, now. And if the Hounds couldn’t smell the fear and the bitterness and the anger sparking off him, he was sure someone could.
