Summary: The Sight tells Aly somebody will soon die.
Sick of extravagant banquets and formal meals, Dove had ordered her next to be an intimate one. Few were present; among them were Aly and Nawat Crow, Duchess Winna and her daughter Pembery, as well as the visiting Sarai and Zaimid Hetnim with baby Mequen.
“I know I’m the queen,” Dove explained, “but even she needs a break, however short.”
With a smile Aly ignored Dove’s meaningful glare. With only a few months left in her pregnancy, Aly had yet to take a break from her duties as Spy Mistress, and didn’t plan to. Not for another month at the very least.
A servant brought in the food and Nawat covered her hand with his. The feather pattern beneath his skin seemed darker today and she used her Sight to examine it in more detail. From the corner of her eye Aly saw something extremely odd.
“Freeze,” Aly called out. Indeed, the dinner party froze.
“What is it?” Winna asked.
Aly shrugged, she herself wasn’t entirely sure. Her Sight told her when one was about to die. Surely it must be wrong, Aly thought, in saying that Dove is about to.
She prodded around with The Sight until she found the source of the problem.
“Your plate of food, Your Majesty, has been poisoned.”
