Sarai slammed the door shut. Her eyes had welled up long ago and she was beyond caring that Zaimid had seen her in tears.
She hated fighting. She hated the way her tears ruined her carefully applied face paint. She hated this stupid vastly hot country. Most of all she hated the distance from her family. How she longed to see them.
Yet Sarai didn’t want to leave Carthak. It was the home of her baby son Mequen, to the man she loved. To her new friends at Court.
Maybe there was some familiarity in this country after all.
