“Aly?” Dove asked tentatively.
The spy mistress looked up. It was odd for her Queen to sound so uncertain.
“Yes…”
“Every new Monarch does something crazy, don’t they? On a complete whim?”
“I suppose,” Aly replied, wondering where this was heading.
“Well here is mine: I want to abolish a law, completely.” Dove stopped her pacing and took a seat at the end of Aly’s desk.
“That’s hardly going on a whim,” Aly pointed out. “Which is the law in question?”
“The Conquers Law.”
“I see,” Aly said thoughtfully. “You will have a few objectors. Preconceived ideas will take generations to change. The raka may have won the rebellion, but it is really only the beginning. We still have many on the outskirts of the Copper Isles who refuse to give in to raka rule.”
“I know Aly,” she sighed. “But I can’t wait for another generation of unorthodox killings.”
“Then I suggest you call a meeting with your advisors.”
Aly smiled, she admired the girl’s courage. Not many laurin would thank her, but Dove would do it anyway. She’ll probably create a crafty speech to win them over, too.
