Hey
I back from my school and I decided to write about something amazing what I love ( and all fans of ski jumping love that) in ski jumpin... I just need to write about it now!!!
Vancouver Olympic hill in the Whistler Olympic Park
Saturday
Gregor Schlierenzauer is the man of the hour.
Also in the first competition on the new Olympic hill about 120 km north of Vancouver the Austrian was unbeatable. With a jump of 142 m in the first round he set the first official hill record in the Whistler Olympic Park. In the final, where the inrun was shorter, he could defend his top position. So the Austrian jumpers remain unbeaten in the year 2009. This was the sixth victory this season for Schlierenzauer and his worst results this winter was a fourth place. Amazing.
The second place went to 4-Hills champion Wolfgang Loitzl. But his 274.1 points meant a deficit of 15.1 points compared to the winner. Matti Hautamaeki became friends with the new hill instantly. This is proven by the third place of the Finn today. It was the second podium finish of the season for Hautamaeki. Simon Ammann came in only fourth and therefore lost his lead in the overall ranking to Schlierenzauer.
The new hill, on which next year the fight for Olympic medals will take place, is very selective. The hill is very big and, compared to most hills in Europe, the gradient is different. Who does not have a perfect take-off, loses a lot of meters in distance.
Thomas Morgenstern, who could finally jump with his own skis again which got lost at the airport in Frankfurt (GER), landed on the fifth place. Behind Dimitry Vassiliev (6th), Martin Schmitt came in seventh and was the best of his team once again.
Sunday
Record-breaking day in Vancouver
This can hardly be topped at the 2010 Olympic Games. In an exciting second Vancouver competition, Gregor Schlierenzauer added another world class performance to extend his own winning streak as well as that of the Austrian team. The last athletes definitely benefited from a strong ascent in the final round - the wind carried Schlierenzauer and Ville Larinto (FIN) to a breath-taking new record at the hill in Whistler Mountain. "You have just witnessed history", yelled a reporter on the scene.
With 149 meters, they passed the hill size by nine meters and improved the old record by seven meters. However, Larinto was not able to stand his effort. Yet, he avoided a fall, touched the snow with his hands and coasted into the landing area. Larinto finished as a strong 3rd with 272.3 points.
After watching his Finnish opponent, Schlierenzauer was prepared for a long jump and had no trouble in completing his 149-meter-flight. The 19-year-old was credited with 293.2 points - the victory was already his 7th of the season and total 19th in 62 career starts.
"The weekend has been sensational, everything went like I had wished. Today's second jump was incredible, and nearly too much. It doesn't get any better than a double victory on the Olympic hill", said the delighted winner.
Thomas Morgenstern, who lead after the first round, finished in 2nd place. He had to see his team mate pass him despite having a remarkable jump of 141 meters himself. Still, he finally celebrated his debut at the podium in this winter.
"That was a definite step in the direction, and I was finally able to be among the best jumpers. I am not quite where I want to be, but the second place will further motivate me to keep on working. I have a specific goal this season, and I won't let go of that", he said.
