Sooooooo

So, almost a year has passed since my last entry here. Incredible. I'll try to update on what's been going on in smaller episodes. Most importantly, work on the photography studio that is mentioned below finally got finished. Parts of it were already done, but the big finale was the cyclorama (a studio floor with rounded edges, so it all looks "endless"). We took a long time in finding someone who could help us building it. Since this would take up a large part of the space, we did not want to "wing it", so we found someone capable of tackling such a big structure. Couple of pics to demonstrate.

The big wooden floor of the cyclorama under construction. Notice that behind it, we left some open space to allow for storage.

The wall section almost done. You can get a sense of dimensions.

And here's how it looked at our opening a couple of months ago. The white glow in the back behind the curtain is the access to the dressing room and storage space, front left is the make-up table. We set up the pink background on top of the white cyclorama.

We've started using the studio since then, as well as rent it out to other photographers. As of September, we will also organize photography workshops, starting with "nude photography". There will also be more technical sessions, e.g. camera maintenance or photography workflow. So far, we've planned 14 sessions.

This shot was taken during a fashion session in cooperation with the fashion students of my school.

It's still hard to believe how much energy went into this project. Certainly didn't think it would take so long to finish, but since we had a concept in mind we wanted to stick to it. No half work. Glad we did, I do feel quite proud looking at the result!

Since the opening, I've been very busy with my graduation projects for my photography course. This was year three, so we had a lot of assignments to finish, plus one final test at the end where we all got three tasks to finish in one weekend (a city portrait, a studio task with a technical camera and a model shoot in a certain magazine style). I have to admit, with the new job and the studio work, I let all those assignments slack. For a looooong time. So, two weeks before their due date, I set up a make-shift studio in my garage (most of the stuff was product photography, so I didn't need a whole studio) and started shooting. Managed to hand in everything in time and present the results to a jury. I had also booked a model for my final test. End result: pass! I'm glad it's over, I am still in good contact with my teacher (he will help us with the workshops) and now I hope to use the studio for my own projects!

to be continued.

PS: why the name eLiMaGe? Well, after some brainstorming, we came up with a name that has a clear link to photography, and also incorporates all of our names: Ellie, Marc and Gewijde. Which also explains the remarkable spelling. :-)
