Comic of the week

There wasn't a comic of the week last week because 1) my mind was still reeling from the crapfest that was One More Day, and 2) all the other comics last week weren't very good, with the exception of Thunderbolts.

This week is better, with Hulk #1 being fairly entertaining, and Jeph Loeb seems to remember how to write a comic. Still, the conversation between Samson and She-Hulk at the beginning seemed more than a bit forced.
The Boys #14 wasn't bad either, but the plot is anything but simple. I'll have to reread the whole arc to really get it.
Messiah Complex is still very strong (I'm loving the X-Books right now), and Peter David turns out another excellent X-Factor issue with #27. The conclusion should be near though...it has lasted long enough.
Youngblood #1 isn't half-bad, for a Youngblood issue. Rob Liefeld is smart enough to stay far away from the creative process, which is a bonus. The plot is standard superhero material, but it's okay.
Amazing Spiderman #546 is the first Brand New Day issue, and to be fair, it's the best Spiderman I've read since Civil War. I suspect this is because of the quality of the creators, not because of OMD. Still, I've decided to forget OMD, and just enjoy my Spiderman.

Best book of the week is The Twelve #1. I've always been a fan of JMS' writing, and here he gets a free reign. The issue is mostly setup, but it's very well done. The art by Chris Weston is very detailed, very sharp, and very good. I hope the other issues live up to the premise.

Checking out,
