#15 Hooverphonic : Dirty Lenses

"If we don't escape we'll turn into everything we hate, but tell me do we even have a chance?"

A bit Hooverphonic by numbers but still miles ahead of most pop singles of 2006, it's "Dirty Lenses". Single #3 from the "No More Sweet Music" album that included hits like "Wake Up", "You Hurt Me" and "We All Float", a song they mainly used to promote their greatest hits.

Rhyming consequences, fences, lenses and chances is what irks me when I'm listening to the verses. The chorus saves it from being completely mediocre and predictable. Maybe the verses try to convey a certain lameness and immobility that has to be wiped away by the chorus. In the end the message of this song is dark and doomful with a strong belief (or at least questioning it) in destiny.
