Idealism
Against all evidence to the contrary, despite everything I've seen go wrong for people I care about, I still believe.
Not in God. Though yes, in a way. I'm not Christian, haven't been since I reached the precipice of adolescence. But I do believe in a greater something in the universe, too vast for names or religion, and what I actually believe is connected to this somehow, I think.
But that's straying from the point.
I'm still an idealist. I still somehow believe that there is a pattern behind all the madness, that the things that are good in the world will come out on top if we make the effort for them.
Not surprisingly, I suppose, given how much I love the game, but the Seelie Code from Changeling: The Dreaming sums up what I believe pretty effectively.
Death Before Dishonor.
-Because there has to be something worth more than yourself.
Love Conquers All.
-But only if we choose it and fight for it.
Beauty Is Life.
-Beauty taken in the broadest possible sense, of course.
Never forget a debt.
-Even if it is never paid, it must always be acknowledged; you can never repay your parents, for example.
I can get bogged down at times, and I can worry and fear. But I can't stop thinking that ultimately, it will all come out right. Laugh all you like, it's just part of who I am.
