Beleg wanders into Moria, his wicker lamp held high. He hears distant singing, and wanders in the direction of it. He comes upon Lalaith, beautiful, yet incredibly sad, holding up a piece of jet black obsidian.

Lalaith? Hello. It is I.

*looks up*

Oh...

What are you doing here? I thought you were going with Daddy and Túrin to fight the dragon...

Glaurung has flown away south, after Tolkien called the Valar in to help. Strange times these are, when gods appear with watering cans -- anyways. I am passing through here on my way to Moria, although right now I am wondering more how you are doing.

I'm okay. I like it here.

... it's so quiet.

It is, that. The silence is welcome after so much activity upon the surface.

So, fair one. What drives you here, to dwell amidst the dark? I admit I only know as much about you as your brother would say; the tragedy of his youth being so close to his heart.

I like to be alone... And I like the dark.

As to what there is to know about me, I don't think I know myself. I died when I was three years old, but grew and learned in the Halls of Mandos. I'm just... starting to figure out who I am.

Understandable. The world has not been kind to you, that much is clear.

Here, I brought you something.

*unwraps a small knife, carved from jet black obsidian, similar to the peice she cradles now. also, he takes out sixteen wafers of lembas, and a small pendant that will glow blue if orcs or other creatures of evil are close by

The knife is for self-defense, and the pendant can help you avoid bad situations. The lembas is for if you decide to stay here, as there will be no other source of food for many miles.

*sits down across from her, cross-legged, and gives her the knife and other items with both hands*

I... *blinks and accepts the gifts with wide eyes*

Thank you. My brother chooses his friends well.

*turns the knife over in her hands* .....thank you.

It is no trouble.

Would you enjoy some company in the dark? I do not need to be in Rivendell for three more days.

You can stay... if you want. I like to be alone, but you don't have to leave.

I... I just like the quiet.

Do not worry, Elves are very good at remaining silent for extended periods of time. I think I will begin my meditations, if you do not mind.

*settles into a meditation position, remaining perfectly still and silent*

*watches curiously for a moment, then goes back to examining the knife as best she can in the low light*

*blinks* Um. It reminds me of Túrin's black sword. It's pretty.

Ah. The Mormegil, yes. I witnessed its power more than a few times. That blade is not made of Galvorn, like the Black Sword was, but of obsidian, like the chunk you have with you. I had it specially tempered by the dwarves in the Iron Hills before I came here.

Iron hills... What's it like there?

It is one of the only places where the dwarves are still active, and friendly to elves. Some of Durin's ancestors live there, I believe... but that is unimportant. They have many wonderful caverns that were a joy to explore, but the foundries run day and night, so peace and quiet is not a comfort you would experience there.

This, I beleive is much better. Peaceful, but no longer forboding. It is an enjoyable experience, and not one I would endure alone.
