Obligatory Melancholy Holiday Post

Everyone says that "the Holidays" are a time to celebrate with friends and family, etc. I agree. But more commonly, you also hear about going "home" for the holidays. Much like you, I have a similar feeling of transience. I don't think that your ability to be comfortable has anything to do with the amount of moving you've done. Home is mostly a place where you land, and you've got to make it comfortable. Don't worry, you're not alone.

Of all of the places I've ever lived, there's only been one where I felt like I was at home, and not just being a prolonged guest.

I hate doing the family thing for the holidays. Haha called me and told me the schedule for all the holiday gatherings, and I kept thinking "I am SO glad I'm not there to be dragged around to all of that ( ... )

I lived in Muncie for 4 years, and Indianapolis was still "home". Los Angeles became "home" after a mere six months.

the first apartment that john and i lived alone in (not jackson st, mind you) always felt like home. it was warm and safe and there was love there. funny though, our next apartment was a more "grown-up" version of the previous: real jobs, real extra-curricular activities, a more true loving together situation than before. yet, it never felt like home. we never figured out what it was that made the second apartment so much less than the first. i'm with you on the quandary, but like everyone else, i don't have a solution to it.
