I hate it when I do stuff like that

I met a woman coming up the walk at church this morning who used to be in my Singles Sunday School class. She and her husband both were, and met there. They got married some time ago. I'm horrible with time; it could have been seven years or it could have been ten. Anyway, I say hi, give her a quick hug and ask, "Where's Lief?". She replies "Lief's in Tyler." and my mind gets hung on that word and I wonder if I knew Lief was working in Tyler. Meanwhile she's saying (I'm pretty sure), "We're not speaking. I think he's working, actually." I tune in for the last sentence and say, "Well, tell him hi." and I'm halfway down the walk before that middle sentence registers.

Maybe I can catch her next Sunday and say I'm sorry; both for the marriage problems and for not paying proper attention.
