You see the flash, and count. You know it's coming.

Two.
Three.
Boom.
The thunderclap crashes against your ears. Each second was about 340 meters traveled to reach you. Five seconds would have been a mile. But the energy was already expended, any damage done before its sonic herald arrived to boast of its power.
The storm you face need not be meteorological.
The boss asks to speak with you privately. You are seated, and you sense that flash of potential. Only seconds away, but the decision was already made. The deed is done. The words leave his mouth to your eardrum, but you already feel it, already know.
On that last coffee date. She hasn't been the same towards you. You suspect but now you know. She looks you in the eye. Your heart senses the flash, prepares for the sound. Her words devastate.
You feel the tires refuse to grip. You see that stationary object ahead. You sense the helpless feeling as seconds slowly tick, the distance closing, the contact inevitable, fate has already decided. It is done.
Three feet away.
Two feet away.
