The truly ironic thing is that it's an Alaskan who is used to further the notion of the mythical Joe Sixpack who can stand in for any non-urban American and can be counted on to blindly vote for whatever candidate the "right" throws their way. Alaska has long been known for its variety of eccentric residents (from what I've heard, the characters in "Northern Exposure" are a tamed-down version of the real thing). So it's no surprise that those wilds give us a Sarah Palin -- but even up there, they ain't all like her.
