LJ Idol topic: “The Hard Truths That I Have Learned, During My Time On Livejournal, About Myself and How I Interact With People”

During the week since this topic was announced, I have been looking over my past three years of entries on this site.

Among other things, I have discovered that I am Superman, Gonzo the Great, Foghorn Legorn, Stewie Griffin, a Star Trek redshirt, a d12, the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog, a Dark Elf, Nyarlathotep (or maybe its follower), Junk Woman, Ron Weasley, a lime tree, the Vine in Celtic lore, with a life path number of 4, the Ultimate in sexual interests, with a Midas touch in seduction, “pretty kinky,” but only 17 percent homosexual while “undifferentiated” in gender, a Snake who should have been born a Horse, a Pegasus, the Tarot card of Justice (or Strength, or the Fool, depending on which survey I take), 60 percent weird, 60 percent cynical, 58 percent pure, equal parts friendliness and ego, speaking Aussie slang (no I don’t!) in a 55 percent evil journal, a natural born killer, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, cultural creative, musical/rhythmic, paranoid, barocco, SG-1 (though I don’t watch it), Libertarian, a scurvy sea-dog, and the Wit, with “Comfortably Numb” for a theme song.

Perhaps some of this can explain how I’ve found myself able to offer some small comfort or random explanations - or the occasional laugh -- to fellow Live Journalers. My interactions seem to be working out well so far, as I try to avoid the pitfalls of others (or perhaps its just dumb luck that I’ve only had to prune one friend for trolling).

It’s all a process, and even those silly memes help me to find and confront the “hard truths” - that paranoia, that alternative or deviant side that just wants to go free. And the best part is that I’ve found so many others making that same path of discovery, whether they intended to with LJ or not. The fact that we all can’t seem to resist those online games and quizzes shows that to a degree we all want to peek in at that little thing we wouldn’t ordinarily bring up in conversation. Or at least show it off in a way that’s fun. Even the ones with totally random answers seem to tell us something.

We’re all freaks, we’re all survivors. For better or worse, we are LiveJournal.
