Yesterday afternoon I was so tired I laid down in the sun in my room and napped for quite a while. I was still really tired when I went to Lauren's for the make-your-own-pizza party. It was really fun at first with all the pizza making and I ate a lot of deliciousness. Lauren's apartment is REALLY nice. Then we played Cranium and it was kind of awkward because no one was especially competitive and I felt awkward. oh well. It was still a fun night. Lauren miming "cocktail dress" by putting her finger in the front and then in the back "cock, tail" was pretty hilarios, as was "butternut squash" which I got because of the buttery nipple gesture which has become part of the group's vernacular.
This morning I went to church and during the peace-passing portion of the service one of the altos gave me some free admission tickets to the International Gem & Jewelry Show at the convention center. So after church I met Bill and Jess to go to the Fell's Point Fun Festival as planned. It was 90 degrees today (ick) so our main goal was to find a restaurant with adequate air conditioning, which we eventually did, and then we walked around for a while looking at art and photography and meat. It was a very big street fair and would have been more fun if it was about 20 degrees cooler, which is probably what they intended for a festival in October. Stupid weather. After that we went to the jewelry show, which was very large, but we didn't find anything to buy. On the walk home we stopped at Starbucks because I was dying of thirst. I got home at like 5.
I really procrastinated for my 20th/21st century voice assignment and tonight I had to pick songs by Bartok and Kodaly, research them to make a handout, and learn the songs for performance in class tomorrow. I have a new-found respect for Bartok after reading bios of him tonight. Here are some of his views on religion:
"It is odd that the Bible says, 'God created man,' whereas it is the other way round: man has created God. It is odd that the Bible says, 'The body is mortal, the soul is immortal,' whereas even here the contrary is true: the body (its matter) is eternal; the soul (the form of the body) is transitory."
Anyway, I thought that was interesting.
Back to work!
