Monday I had my callback for opera. It was really strange. I brought Amor because they wanted something cabaret and I sang part of it and then ended up singing Someone to Watch Over me. Then they had me sing the beginning and end of Parto. I'd never just started at the end before and it was pretty awful. The whole thing was just weird. I was so impressed with Eileen Cornett though, who is one of the opera coaches (and also my teacher's wife). She played everything from memory and it was awesome.
Yesterday morning I had my alarm set for 8:00 and I woke up at 7:59. It was so perfect. I hate hearing the sound of my alarm. I knew it was going to be a good day. :) Ear training was not very fun. Tuesdays are 2-voice dictations and it was really easy and I still didn't get the whole thing. Imani dropped her cell phone in the middle and I looked over at her and lost Do. boo. Theory wasn't as fun as the first class, but our teacher is still hilarious and amazing. I'm writing down the funny things he says and I'll have to post them sometime.
After lunch, I had Operas of Mozart, which was still just old opera history stuff since he's trying to give us background. It's kind of nice to already know everything the teacher is talking about, except for the little interesting trivia he adds in. After that we had studio class, where we just introduced ourselves and worked out the lesson schedule. It was kind of weird. Then I had "movement for the stage", which was REALLY weird. We were literally rolling around on the floor, barefoot.
We had like a half hour before the opera meeting so Lydia came to my apartment so I could play the Pupo song "Lidia" for her. hehe.
The opera meeting at 5 was about scheduling and rules and stuff. I still find the whole opera department really intimidating. After that I spent my evening organizing stuff and watching some more of The Office Season 3, before going to bed early (which is why I woke up this morning at 7:10 without an alarm!)
