The reason I don't watch US tv shows is because they're pretty much always on commercial channels here, and I can't stand commercial channels. The ads, the blatant manipulative trailers, the way they can show all the blood and guts they want but as long as there's no f's or certain bits of anatomy it's okay for prime time.
So when my friend sat me down in front of a dvd of Life, I was crawling out from under the proverbial rock. It actually took me the entire first episode to get my head around the accents. Then I completely and utterly loved it. There's sunshine. And guns. And platonic work relationships (so far - not that I expect that to last). And, truly surprisingly, there's subtlety and subtext. I realise how completely ignorant that sounds. Probably there's been subtlety and subtext in American tv for decades, but I haven't seen any of it.
Um, yes. So. It's good. It's also kind of hard to search for on lj, obviously, but as I've only seen the first four episodes (no idea how many there actually are), I'm not wanting fic or anything yet. Yet.
Edit: Ahahahaha, he's English. Of course he is. Oh this makes me laugh.
