Better Idea, Dammit

It is very, very annoying when, having once completed a novel-length story (albeit not a very satisfactory one), you then start to edit and add to the story against your better judgement... and then proceed to have A Better Idea. An idea that swiftly develops from the initial tiny improvement into an all-encompassing, necessary shift in perception which, if it were to be implemented, would result in rewriting 2/3 of the erstwhile material.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!
