I'm back ... and off again

So first week of the holidays is over and here's my report. ;-)

I went to Nürnberg [Nuremberg] with my friends last Sunday and returned yesterday. It was a great trip and time was flying.
We lived in the flat of a friend of one of my friend's family who's a jesuit friar, who wasn't there at the time, so we had the whole place to ourselves. Most of us thought we were going to have something similiar to a youth hostel, so it was a great surprise that we had a completely equipped flat all to ourselves, inclusive of kitchen, hammocks (!), roof-terrace and a second floor where some of us slept. Also, the flat was full of eastern/oriental and african items because of the Jesuit thing. It was a really nice place to stay at.

Nürnberg is a beautiful city too, and I was surprised by its dimensions since I didn't think it was much bigger than my home-town, but obviously it's got about 500.000 inhabitants. The city centre is pretty enormous with lots and lots of shopping streets, full of all those great shops (like Thalia, one of those chain bookstores, but it was amazing, they had this section for English classics and it looked like an victorian country house with fire place and all XD )
There are also a lot of medieval-looking buildings and houses with beautiful facades, although that was apparenty rebuilt after the war, but you wouldn't recognize it if you didn't know.

This was in front of the castle, which was very high up the mountain and had a museum which contained mostly weapons, some of them so large you wouldn't believe you could use them.

Me in the courtyard of the castle after visiting the museum.

That's the view from some look-out tower within the castle. Sadly there wasn't any platform to go on, only the look out of the window. I don't like that, you climb up all those steps and then you can't even go out. ;(

One of those pretty facades I'm obsessed to take fotos of. There are a lot of houses which look like that, so it probably was tiring for my friends to wait for me taking my pictures. XD

This was in Albrecht-Dürer-house, wich is the place where he lived and worked for some time. They had arranged the furniture in the way it probably looked like in his time, and this was the printing press for his woodcarvings.

This was in a room that was redesigned as his working place, with colours, brushed, tools and all that stuff, which  was really pretty interesting to look at.

This was in the same room. It all looked very realistic and not very museum-like, so I found it interesting even though I wasn't much interested in Dürer before.

I had to take a picture of that map drawn by Dürer, since the person in the upper left corner is Ptolemy and next to him it says something like "Ptolemy, Alexander the Great's cosmographer" in Latin. You see, DIRECT  CONNECTION TO ALEXANDER. XD

Oh yeah, and this was in our house. I found that amazing, you had to unbar the lock in the elevator, and then directly ended up in the flat. I WANT THAT TOO, it's so cool.

We also went to a really funny "museum". It was in a tower and about sensory perceptions and illusions. There was a lot information about autism (since people with autism have got a completely different perception) and a lot of experiments of all sorts. There was this strangely built room (without right angle) where you could stand at the wall, and the person in the one corner looked about twice as tall as the one in the other one. That was one great museum, really.

So, tomorrow I'm off again. I'm going to Benediktbeuern  for an International Meeting of Youths, where people from all sorts of countries are going to come, like Scotland, Italy, Czech Republik, obviously Germany, etc, etc, and I suppose it's about some multi-cultural understanding and stuff. I hope people are going to be okay, so that it will be fun.

Well, I hope all of you are doin' okay and will still be around when I return in a week. ;-)

holidays, travelling, nürnberg
