I was first diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) about 11 years ago. It was one of the reasons I stopped drinking. I've found that a combination of St John's Wort and light therapy does me better than any combination of SSRIs would. In my opinion, selective seratonin reuptake inhibitors treat the symptom rather than the underlying cause - in my case, too much melatonin, which makes me sleepy, lethargic, forgetful, and easily upset.
