Sounds like a good start. Maybe you can establish a period of time at home that has to be used on academics, even when there's no homework? He can read or review when there's no assignment.

This sounds very promising. Pirate chafes at homework because she doesn't like to practice concepts that she already has down cold from the classroom.

So, if necessary or wanted, there's the Khan Academy that I linked to via Google+ that has videos and exercises that one can do for basic arithmetic. There are also videos for civics and some science too.

Wow, this sounds like the best-beginning-of-a-school-year for Jason and y'all that I can recall hearing about. Oh, how I hope it lasts!

Maybe the new school (if I'm right, I used to live across the street from the high school) comes with better people, even if it's only by coincidence?
