That's Rose Mary Woods, Nixon's personal secretary, doing the "Rose Mary Stretch" to demonstrate how she could have caused the "terrible mistake" of accidentally erasing the 18.5 minute gap on the Watergate tapes. I'd never seen the picture before and just thought it was funny.

I don't get how reaching erases tape...?? was she wearing magnets and reached over the tape for a while? I don't get it!!!

supposedly she kept her foot on the floor pedal controlling playback of the tape and accidentally hit record because the ringing of the phone startled her. she leaned all crazy and stretched to the phone like that because it was a natural way to stay for 18.5 minutes, accidentally. duh!
