Last Sunday I found out that my 2 year old niece, Emily Isabella Sanda, has type C Niemann-Pick disease. It is a rare, and fatal metabolic disorder, with about 500 cases diagnosed world wide. There is no known cure for this disease as of yet, but there are some experimental drugs that might help slow the neurological decline.

What exactly happens with this particular disease? I've never heard of it before. And is there a chance she can get access to the experimental drugs?
