not cool livejournal...

First they came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up,
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left
to speak up for me.

It comes to my attention that LiveJournal is being pressured to ban certain users based on their interests. As I do not share the interests LiveJournal is currently banning, I feel that I have the freedom to speak out against this. While LiveJournal is a business, it is also a webjournal. As of yet there are no regulations on the internet(s) preventing people from stating their opinions and interests as long as they are clearly purported as such (for instance if you wish to run an adult site you must put up a warning page requesting that those under 18 stay out, and I believe that slander laws are still applicable, as are copyright laws). That being said, persecution of people based on interests viewed by the mainstream as perverted or abnormal is no reason for banning the user. The government does not have the right to tell you how to think and they have a limited domain on your behavior in the public, less so in private. I'm disturbed that someone feels that LiveJournal is in a public enough domain that they can demand that people with odd thoughts be banned. Sure this time they're banning something that doesn't affect me but how soon til they start banning something more mainstream? I don't want lose my account just because I believe that more money should be given to the NIH and that we should end the war in Iraq.

A hoax! And I so fell in to that one lol. I was really shocked to hear that LJ was silently banning users based on their interests and now I'm really glad to hear it's not true. Hurray freedom of thought and boo gullible me ^^;;

Not a hoax... how could you LJ? You make me sorry I ever bought a paid account.
