So last night was the night... Nico and I figured out all the parts for my new shuttle.
I ended up getting:
Shuttle SN45GV2 Athlon XP/Duron Barebone System Retail (the pretty silver box and a motherboard)
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 2.16GHz 333FSB 512KB Processor (couldn't justify 3200 but seemed pointless getting lower)
Corsair VS512MB333 512MB DDR333 PC2700 Value Select Memory Retail (learned lots about CAS and why 2.5 is fine)
Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600 XT AGP 8X 128MB DDR Video Card w/TV-Out, DVI & CRT (happy happy video card)
Liteon LTR-52327S / SOHR-5238S 52x32x52 E-IDE/ATAPI CD-RW Drive (Beige) (heh... decided against DVD-anything)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3160023A 160GB Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer (and i've got a 120 gig to slave to it *eg*)
for $640! (I'll never buy a finished box again...)
Nico says it will run FFXI at high res even in party mode as well as many other games I shouldn't be playing because I don't have time. Better yet it won't crash when I have a zillion programs running although a zillion and one is the limit = P .
But yeah. I'm excited... AND we're going to put a racing stripe on it *grins*.
