Maki had two hours before she had to be at work, and instead of working on one of the three papers she had due by Monday, she decided to treat herself. She walked down to the nearest park, and circled around until she found one of the few stands still selling snowcones. Blue raspberry in hand, staining her lips slightly blue, she wandered leasurely for awhile before finding an empty bench to perch on.
It was a nice day, warm but not too warm, just right. Maki inhaled the multitude of scents and let some of the stress she was under slip away for a few blissful moments. It didn't last very long.
Stiffening up, Maki tried to scan the area without turning or lifting her head. She knew that feeling, another wolf, and close by. It was actually something she'd sensed before, late the first night at her apartment, but she'd dismissed it as imagination. This was not imagination, stronger than ever. When she didn't immediately spot the wolf, a male by the feel of him, Maki kept her head lowered over her snowcone and hoped irrationally that he would pass on without noticing her.
