Nino jogged up the steps to the front of the 42nd Street Library. His breath steamed in front of him as he did; he pulled his scarf more snugly around his neck and under his chin. He hadn't set an exact time to meet Maki, and he didn't know if there were things she had to do before she got off work or if she could just walk out. Maki hadn't called to ask where he was, so Nino figured he hadn't been keeping her waiting.
He slipped inside the building and presented himself to security - he didn't have a bag or anything to search so he was waved through. Nino paused off to the side of the entrance, by the stairs leading up, and looked around. There were ghosts in this old building. Nino closed his eyes. He hadn't been here in years, and the ghosts saw only the grandeur of their distant past, remembered only the lives they'd led and the times they'd come here. They'd loved it that much.
Nino smiled, relaxing against the marble to wait for Maki.
