This episode, guys.
I started off pretty skeptical because last week's episode happened, but, you guys.
First of all, while everyone was like "GAIMAN ADDSLHUAELHUAE" I was kind of over here like "well, pff, he's just a guy," but you were all right. From the first lines of dialogue it was just so...crisp and right. Natural interactions, really believable stream-of-consciousness almost. The way they spoke, it was like their actual thoughts were kind of filtering through to what was said. Bad sentence. Anyway, the writing was very solid.
Second, who played the TARDIS, she is amazing. Seriously the only sad thing about this is I kind of want her for the next companion now and it can never be.
Third, oh my GOD, FINALLY we got some proper Doctor speeches. I mean, when he found the boxes, and when he talked about hope, and when he spoke to the TARDIS about being alive, guys, my heart. Where has that Doctor been, this season?
Fourth, some people are apparently complaining that this episode negates Bad Wolf, but like, you guys know what a big Rose stan I am and I honestly didn't think that at all. Rose looked into the heart of the TARDIS, but that resulted in her absorbing the time vortex, not that TARDIS' actual soul, which is a much smaller entity. Bad Wolf was the whole of time and space; woman!TARDIS was just the one TARDIS, the blue box, personified. The TARDIS calling Eleven "her Doctor" is not meant to step on the toes of Rose saying "I want you safe, my Doctor." That wasn't the TARDIS saying that; it was Rose. Or, it was the Bad Wolf, who is Rose, not some random other entity, but that's a whole other issue of head canon I guess. Anyway, I just didn't have an issue with it at all. I feel like you must really be looking for Rose-bashing to see it that way. Or to be in social media circles with Rose-bashers, in which case, why, people, why.
Fifth, AMY'S DELIGHT DA;IDA;IAE;JAE;AE MY SHIPPER HEART
Sixth, okay is it just me or was this week's Rory "death" arc about a thousand times more intense and gutting than any of the times he's "actually died?" Just. The whole time with Amy and Rory in the TARDIS my heart was aching. I kind of just loved every single thing about this episode.
Seventh, Leah and Rachel and I were talking about this, but remember how Gaiman first wrote this episode for s5, when Rory was meant to be dead/not existed? So then he had to rewrite the episode, with Rory in. Can you even imagine this episode without Rory? Especially Amy's parts in the TARDIS, but even some of the funniest bits. Rory is the beeeeeest.
EIGHTH I JUST WANT TO WATCH IT AGAIN AND THEN ANOTHER TIME RIGHT NOW but I can't I have to get up early =( =( =(
ugh, guys, just. I've wanted this episode for so long. It was so good. It was so Doctor Who. This is my show. I want it to stay.
