Outside the Box

What box?? :)

Do you, or have you, ever thought about something in a completely nontraditional way? Where your heartfelt opinion was very different than the accepted norm? Tell me about them! I'd love to know I'm not the only one! :)

Here are a few of mine:

1. When I was in 8th grade, we read "The Diary of Anne Frank," and during one of the discussions about the book, another girl stated in wistful tones that she thought Anne was lucky to experience something like that, and I was jolted, not because I thought it was inappropriate to feel that way, but because I had thought the exact same thing! (Only I had thought before saying it aloud). Of course, the teacher's response was what you'd expect, "What a terrible thing to say! She and her family were experiencing...blah, blah, blah"

Now, before you start thinking we were pro-Nazi or had some sort of self-punishment fantasies, let me explain. There is something about being in an isolated place where you are able to flirt uninterrupted with a boy crush. Where you aren't living by any sort of "schedule" and can talk for extended periods of time. I had a similar experience when I was a teen. I had to go inside the house at a certain time in the evenings, but my neighbors (including a crush at the time) would hang out outside my window on the stair landing of the apartments and we'd talk for hours, until everyone else around us was nodding off. It felt so romantic. And, I think that is what that girl was thinking about, and I know that's what I was thinking about.

2. I don't like weeded gardens, at least, not for my garden. I like the look of wildness, of just letting everything that would naturally grow there flourish. I have a border around some trees that are next to the house out front and an area on the other side of the steps outlined in a border that has some actual planted flowers (a butterfly bush and others) in it, but instead of weeding it, I like for the natural stuff to grow. For a few years, I kept it (relatively) weeded and well-groomed, but I found I wasn't happy with it. So, this year, I decided to just let it go wild, and I love the result!

I like dandelions, thistle, clover, wild grasses, whatever will grow. I think it lends a "jungle-like" look to it, and I love that. I grew up in Texas, where the only gardens were those imported from elsewhere or cacti. I hated well-groomed gardenscapes because I knew they were fake. Part of the reason I wanted to move to West Virginia was to see nature all over the place in its natural form. Why stifle its growth? It'd be different if I made the postal carrier wade through it or something, but it's not like that - it's all within the border by the house. When I have some money to put into it, I'm going to plant some more actual flowers within both areas, and I love the idea of them just growing along with what grows there naturally. I think it's pretty and much more natural.

3. I like hairy men, yes, even on their backs! My husband is as hairy as they come, and I LOVE it! :) For me, the hair on his chest feels like a cushy pillow when I lay my head down on it, and I think his hairiness overall lends a very masculine air to his presence. I don't want a smooth "boy," I want a strong, hairy "MAN!" :)

So, that's a few of my "out of the boxes." Do you have any? Tell me about them! Have a great day, Everyone! Love to family!
